Your job now is to show up, have fun, and just be YOU! I will take over the rest! So excited to start creating!
Before You Find Your Outfit
Before you even FIND that perfect outfit lets talk color choices! Don't choose colors that are distracting or over bearing! I have found the most beautiful images come from soft, light color choices! Avoid strange color casts on your skin by skipping dark, neon, or bold color choices. I also always suggest to my clients to look for pattern free, lighter toned colors. I love the way creams, grays, light pinks, soft blues, blushes, dusty rose and neutral colors look on camera!
Let Her Shine
“Dress” to Impress
When a beautiful client comes with a stunning, elegant outfit, I am 100% confident we will be creating images will turn out AMAZING! So put on that fancy dress! Order that flower crown! And slip on the high heels! This is your chance to shine! Don’t be afraid to DRESS IT UP! You don’t have to go out and spends hundreds of dollars on a new outfit or two for your session! Check out the dress rental companies in town. Take a peek in your fashionista friends closet, or borrow that amazing dress from your sister!
But then the situation presents itself, this IS the perfect excuse to go out and snag that brand new piece or 2 for your closet!
Imagine this, a woman grabs the side of her long flower chiffon skirt as she runs hand in hand with her man. The camera LOVES a woman in a dress. The flow of the skirt adds such beautiful movement and life to an image. A dress adds beauty and elegance to your session. In my experience every woman's body is flattered in a dress. While the whole world stands still a women in a dress flows across an image.
Short skirts or fitted skirts also have their place! If you are not expecting to crouch down to interact with children and are confident in your body and legs, then a form fitted short shirt and or dress can be beautiful.
Add An Outfit?
You are welcome to bring 2 outfits if you’d like. So go grab your fancy dress and high heals! If you’d like to also a grab a more date-night type dress and cute closed toed flats then throw that in too! Some people choose, for ease of things, to only bring one outfit. Whatever tickles your fancy! There is no need to add to the stress that day if you already have an outfit you love! If choosing multiple outfits adds to the stress, then don't worry about adding it in! If you decide to go with only one outfit choice, we will have more time to work on capturing those stunning images with the interruption of changing outfits.
Compliment Your Body
Although we may look at someone and see nothing but beauty, it is more common than not that each person has something about their body that they don't love! Not only do we want you to look beautiful in each image but we want you to FEEL beautiful!
There are thousand of tips and tricks out there that can help you dress in a manor that will help you feel confident in your body.
Three-quarter length sleeves, for example, create an awesome slimming effect on your arms. If your arms are an area of concern for you, you could bring a cute jacket, blazer or cardigan. Skinny straps or strapless dresses have the opposite effect on arms on camera, so we recommend avoiding those whenever possible if your goal is a set of slimmer-looking arms.
Heels elongate women’s legs, making them look fabulous. Closed-toed heels in particular look great on camera because they carry out the line of your leg all the way down to your toe. When wearing heels for your session it is always a good idea to bring more comfortable flats for walking from place to place.
Bracelets, necklaces, earrings and more! These beautiful accessories are a great way to add a pop of color! Make note that when accessorizing you should use accessories that have a bit of substance, not thin and simple as these tend to get lost on camera. Don't be afraid to go big! Here are a few accessories to consider. Along with the ones mentioned above think about scarves, hats, flowers, or even flower crowns!
Leave It To The Pros
Do you want another tip to help reduce your stress and make sure look your perfection on picture day? Professional hair and make up! Profession hair and make up artist are educated in how to make you look your BEST in front of the camera! It is like a dream come true when my client comes to their session with professional hair and makeup done! Session day is the day to go big or go home! So get those lash extensions! Tell them to add that contour. Contact a professional! At first it may seam your make up is “a tad much” or “a little over the top.” But trust your artist! They know that it takes a little extra to make those images pop! If you have questions about any Artist feel free to ask! I work with many professionals that I know and trust!
Let Him Shine
Style Him Handsome
Throw out those shorts and flip flops and throw on those nice fitted long pants and shoes. Believe me I love a lose, soft pant as much as the next person (okay probably even more), but those are NOT what we are looking for in our photos. We want a nice fitted dress pant that will go perfectly with the color scheme we are going for. Lets talk shirts. Stay away from the crazy prints and loud colors. Stay fitted (but not TOO tight) stay simple. Again while picking a shirt for your man stay away from sleeveless. A great tip for men is a long button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up twice! It creates a clean, handsome figure.
Layer it On
The camera loves to see man in layers! Weather it is nice grey sports coat or blazer, or a skinny tie and vest. LAYERS are an amazing way to add some dimension to a mans look. Layering is also a great way to add that second outfit in for him when you KNOW he wont want to do a full outfit change. Sometimes its much more likely he will be willing to take off a vest, or add a suit coat. Remember to try to MIX UP the color tons if even just slightly so he is not wearing grey pants, with a grey shirt, and a grey vest over his grey tie! We love seeing a dapper man!
Take A Second To Notice His Details
Check his shoes before he heads out the door! Its hard to look past a pair of old tennis shoes even if everything else in the picture is basically perfection!Tell him to get out his nice watch, his best ties, and his favorite tie clip! Is he up for wearing a unique bow tie, or maybe even suspenders? The saying still stand “You can never over dress!” Brown either dress shoes are a super yummy touch to polish off his perfect look!
